Easy Shepherds Pie


  • 500-800g lean beef mince

  • 5 x large potatoes

  • 2x beef or veg stock cubes

  • 1x onion

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 1 tbsp mustard powder

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) tomato purée

  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) Worcestershire sauce

  • chopped parsley

  • 2x finely grated carrots

  • 1x finely grated zucchini

  • 1/2 cup of peas

  • 2x tbs butter

  • Milk

  • Cheese of choice I used pecorino

How to cook

Set oven to 160CFF

1. Peel and chop potatoes put them into a saucepan with water and boil until soft

2. Brown onion & beef mince

3. add garlic finely grated or chopped, mustard powder, paprika, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, grated carrots & zucchini to beef and stir until combined.

4. Once the beef is mixed through adding the stock cubes and a splash of water. Let the mixture simmer until the potatoes are ready

5. Once the potatoes are cooked remove them from the water and add a splash of milk and two tablespoons of butter. Mash well

6. Place beef mixture into a pie or baking dish of choice & spread mashed potato evenly on top. Sprinkle pecorino or parmesan on top

7. Bake for 20-25mins or until crispy on top
